Abstract

The objective of this study was identify the knowledge about phytotherapy in the population of Pernambuco state, as well as the associated factors. A cross-sectional study of quantitative approach had its data collection remote from an online questionnaire; and sought to extract information about the participants' profile, use and knowledge about phytotherapy. Data were submitted to statistical tests to verify significant associations (p=0.05). The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Pernambuco. Among 372 individuals, 80.6% reported knowing the topic. Factors associated with knowledge about phytotherapy were age over 25 years, residence in the capital of Pernambuco, complete higher education, income over three minimum wages, white race/color, residence with no more than two people, and use of phytotherapy (p < 0.05). There is inequality in access to information, making health education strategies necessary for the most vulnerable groups and less developed regions.
