Historical Register: 1st Amazonas State Meeting on Medicinal Plants

Abstract

In November, 2005, many different academic institutions, business firms, community representatives and research financing agencies from Amazonas State held the first regional event dedicated to medicinal plants to occur in that State. The event featured oral and poster presentations, mini-courses and talks by researchers who work in diverse scientific fields related to the study of medicinal plants. The primary objective of the event was to promote greater integration between professionals and the different sectors involved in the efforts to develop products based on plant biodiversity, with strong emphasis on Amazonian plants. Towards the end of this meeting, the positive and negative points of the event were evaluated; suggestions were received with an idea to perfecting of the process for insertion of this event in the Amazonas scientific calendar. The creation of the Medicinal Plant Association of Amazonas was also discussed.
