Abstract

The present study brings a complete survey of the medicinal epiphytic parasite species belonging to the families Lorantaceae and Viscaceae that are known in Brazil by the popular name of “erva-de-passarinhoâ€. Traditional uses and therapeutic activity associated to the species, as described in the literature, are presented as well as the chemical substances isolated from them.
