The present transcription brings about a critical article on the memory of the I Symposium of Medicinal Plants in Brazil that took place in the middle 1967, under the support of the Brazilian Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. As the main goal, that first symposium aimed to foment a debate by the principal scientific leaders at that time, concerning about the problems and difficulties faced during the scientific study of medicinal plants. The result of such a meeting has originally been published in the Arquivos do Instituto Biológico, v. 35, fasc. 2, 1968, Supl. I, p. 2-6.
