Abstract
The I Congress of FEBRAPLAME was carried out in São Paulo on the 14th and 15th of June 2007. The congress had the participation of representants from several Scientific Societies involved with medicinal plants, government, and support agences, and it was divided em 4 modules: Legislation about Phytotherapics; Research and Developmento of Phytotherapics; Public Policy in Phytotherapy; and finally the Evaluation of each Federate Society about the present situation and Proposals for the Future. The aim of the event was trying to diagnose and to point out alternatives for the present problems concerning the medicinal plants research, such as: legislation, public politics, financial support and industrial production. The main points discussed were the lack of political coordination on governmental actions; lack of management concerning the scientific community studies; difficulties for the scientific community to join with the pharmaceutical industry in common scientific projects; and the Brazilian laws that turn it difficult and non-viable the research on Brazilian medicinal plants.
