O Potencial da Espécie Moringa oleifera (Moringaceae). I. A Planta como Fonte de Coagulante Natural no Saneamento de Águas e como Suplemento Alimentar

Resumo

Moringa oleifera Lam. é uma planta tropical que contém substâncias solúveis em água, dotada de excelentes propriedades de coagulação, para o tratamento de água e água residuária. Uma proteína floculante das sementes é responsável pela eficiência e propriedade como coagulante natural, sendo comparável ao sulfato de alumínio, atualmente o produto químico mais usado nos processos de tratamento de água. Apresenta potencial de aplicabilidade no tratamento de efluentes, com adsorção de compostos orgânicos em solução aquosa, bem como no pré-tratamento de efluentes na Usina de destilação de óleo de palmeira. Esta planta produz óleos de excelente qualidade, com características comparáveis às de azeite de oliva. É uma planta rica em aminoácidos, vitamina A (β-caroteno) e α- e δ-tocoferol, sendo excelente fonte alternativa de proteínas para suplemento alimentar humano e animal. Também é empregada na medicina herbática na Índia.
