Abstract

Aromatherapy can be used to control anxiety, an intensified disease during Covid-19 pandemic, caused by the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). In this context, the aim of this review is to register what is found in the recent literature on the use of Aromatherapy as a Complementary and Integrative Practice (CIP) in the control of anxiety as a consequence of the Covid-19. A search was carried out in the databases of PubMed, Web of Science and SciELO, including articles published between the years 2019 and 2021 and using the following descriptions isolated or combinaded: Covid-19, mental health, anxiety, essential oils, Complementary and Integrative Practices and Aromatherapy. According to this review, there are no studies using Aromatherapy to prevent and/or cure anxiety caused by Covid-19 pandemic. However, there are reports of the anxiolytic potential of essential oils, which improve the patient's wellbeing. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia Mill.) essential oil is the most described for anxiolytic potential. Essential oils can be indicated for anxiety control, as a CIP, but always with the orientation of a health professional.
