He has experience in the areas of Human Physiology, Cardiorespiratory Rehabilitation and Pilates. She was a professor at the Higher Education Association of Piauí (2011-2013), Faculdade do Piauí (2012), Faculdades INTA (2012-2014) teaching the subjects Human Physiology, Human Anatomy, Physiology of the Regulatory System, Cardiovascular Physiotherapy, Internship in Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy, Complementary Exams and Fundação de Ensino Superior de Itabira (MG) - Funcesi, teaching the subjects Anatomy I and II, Neuroanatomy and Ethics and Deontology in the Physiotherapy course. She worked as a professor and coordinator of the bachelor's degree in Medicine at the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT) and was a professor of the Medicine course at Idomed Fapan teaching the subjects Tutoring (Biochemistry, Physiology and Immunology) and Anatomy of Systems.

Abstract

Phytotherapy is an integrative practice that uses plant active ingredients to produce medications, with its effectiveness and risks scientifically proven. Furthermore, a large part of the population uses medicinal plants due to cultural knowledge, easy access and low cost. Because of this, this study aimed to analyze the use of herbal medicines and the knowledge of health professionals in Primary Health Care, considering that they can guide the management of these assets. This is a secondary study, of the integrative literature review type, in which the BVS, PUBMED and Scielo databases were used through a combination of descriptors, in three linguistic variations: Portuguese, English and Spanish. The articles showed a low level of knowledge among professionals about medicinal plants and little support related to the availability of educational material. It was identified that some professionals use only personal knowledge to prescribe, putting patients at risk of adverse side effects. In short, there is a gap between knowledge and practice of phytotherapy among professionals, due to insecurity and unpreparedness in their approach. Therefore, to integrate this practice effectively, it is necessary to invest in the qualification of professionals, production of scientific evidence and promotion of public policies.
