Essential oil cavities are ubiquitous in the Myrtaceae family. Despite several studies on the formation of these cavities in different myrtaceous genera, there is still no consensual interpretation of its ontogeny in Myrtaceae. This demonstrates the need to expand these studies in this family. Domatia are small depressions formed on the abaxial surface of the leaf of several species, and when present, are easily observed in the intersection of the midrib with the secondary veins. The records of domatia in Myrtaceae family are still scarce. Its presence and classification constitute morphological characters with useful systematic values for separating genera and species. This is a contribution to the knowledge of the ontogeny of secretory cavities and the first record of the occurrence of domatia in leaves of Campomanesia adamantium. Secretory cavities show schizolysigenous ontogeny. Domatia are classified as pocket-like, and its open to the outside is filled with tector trichomes. The anatomical analysis revealed that, in the region opposite the opening, there is an epithelium with cells higher than the other epidermal cells as well as the occurrence of stomata. More detailed observations in other species is necessary to verify the taxonomic application of this structure in Campomanesia genus.
