Abstract

This study aimed to propose a reflection on the importance of the preservation and conservation of the springs of the city of São José das Palmeiras - PR, located in the West of the state of Paraná. The question emerges from the case study of a city that suffered a problem of water shortage and found in the recovery of the springs the solution to supply of water. Methodologically, a bibliographic review was made, with theoretical support on the importance of water, recovery of springs, characterization of the city object of study and, finally, an experience report where it was demonstrated that the popular initiative linked to projects such as the "cultivating good water" are essential for the development of cities. It is warned about the need for governments to invest in the preservation and conservation of springs, as well as in awareness, to avoid the depletion of this water resource essential to survival.
